With over 8,500 sea animals and innovative displays, this aquarium is known for always featuring new hands-on activities, animals, and exhibits, so every visit is a new opportunity to explore, discover and play.

You’ll get to explore seven unique touch exhibits where you can get up close and personal with sharks, stingrays, and take your time exploring the aquarium’s 14 interactive and immersive exhibits.

Every day the aquarium provides enriching experiences for visitors, like the African Penguin Feedings, Hippo Bedtime, Hippo Feeding, Meet the Divers, Up Close Animal Experiences, and more. Check the daily schedule to see when things are happening during your visit.

Be sure to check out what’s playing at the Adventure Aquarium’s 3D Theater to explore deep-sea topics even more in a fully immersive, thrilling experience for the whole family.

What to expect:
The Philadelphia Pass gets you free General Admission tickets to the Adventure Aquarium.

Your Adventure Aquarium tickets include access to all regular exhibits and shows and a ticket to a show at Adventure Aquarium’s 3D Theater for a one-of-a-kind movie experience.

Exhibition highlights:

  • Piranha Falls: the aquarium’s newest exhibit is a multi-sensory Amazon experience about life on the Amazon River featuring sharp-toothed piranha and more.
  • Caribbean Currents: this large, colorful tank features exotic sea life, including brightly colored tropical fish, lined seahorses, lobster, eels, French angelfish, colorful coral and plant life, and lots more.
  • Creature Feature: see and touch a variety of cold water invertebrates, like seastars, anemones, sea cucumber, snails, and more in their inter-tidal marine ecosystem.
  • Gill’s Grotto: geared towards younger kids, this underwater playground is a fun way for kids to interact with some of the sea life and become a part of the aquarium experience.
  • Hippo Haven: this vibrant theatrical environment demonstrates a day in the life on an African river for some of its native animals, the hippos—you’ll get to see the resident 3,000+ pound Nile hippos, Button and Genny, ‘nose-to-nose’ in their above and below water viewing area.
  • Little Blue Beach: visit the smallest (and cutest) penguins in the world playing on their sandy Australian beach. You’ll get above and below water views of the penguins so you can see them swimming and learn all about them and how they co-habitate with humans in their native land.
  • Ocean Realm: one of the aquarium’s highlight exhibits, this tank features giant sea turtles, stingrays, and a variety of intimidating sharks, including the great hammerhead shark—the biggest of the hammerhead species of sharks!
  • Shark Bridge: walk along the longest, V-shaped rope suspension bridge in the world right above the 21-foot Shark Realm exhibit – if you dare – and take a look behind the scenes of Adventure Aquarium to get a whole new perspective on the 550,000-gallon tank and its dorsal-finned inhabitants.
  • Shark Realm: survivors of Shark Bridge can enter the aquarium’s 40-foot shark tunnel, home to over 20 sharks and 200 animals, where you’ll literally be surrounded by some of the fiercest creatures of the sea.
  • Stingray Beach Club: dip your hands into the warm waters of the tropical oasis, Stingray Beach Club, where you can pet several stingray species: cownose rays, southern stingrays, leopard whiprays, and yellow stingrays. During select times of the day, you can purchase cups of fish and hand-feed the stingrays (please note: cost of stingray feed is not included with your Adventure Aquarium tickets).
  • And more

What not to miss:
Every exhibit at the Adventure Aquarium is worth a visit, but don’t leave without seeing the hippos in Hippo Haven, walking the bridge in Shark Bridge, touching a shark and petting a stingray, watching a storm roll in in Piranha Falls, and catching a movie with your Adventure Aquarium 3D theater ticket.

Tips for visiting:

  • Check the aquarium’s daily schedule and plan around any daily shows, talks, or feedings you want to see.
  • Explore at your own pace. It’s a self-guided tour, but the average time spent at the Adventure Aquarium is 3 hours.
  • To avoid the largest crowds, plan to visit on a weekday or before 11:00 am or after 2:00 pm to avoid school and large group trips.
  • Transportation: please note that this aquarium is on the Camden Waterfront in New Jersey, so plan your transportation ahead of time (consider taking a ferry!).

Fun facts:

  • The Adventure Aquarium is the only aquarium in the world to have hippos and it’s the only aquarium in the US that has great hammerhead sharks, the largest of the hammerhead sharks.
  • The aquarium’s exhibits make up over 2 million gallons of water in its tanks.
  • Adventure Aquarium is an accredited member of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA).
